If you are looking to improve the shape of your legs you will be happy to know that Calf Augmentation is a relatively straightforward surgical procedure that usually takes about an hour to perform.
However before the procedure is undertaken an in-depth conversation between you and the surgeon must take place to determine your expectations and how they can best be fulfilled. Once you are clear about the procedure, and what can be expected from the outcome, calf prostheses (implants) will be carefully chosen for you by your surgeon.
On the day of the surgery these prostheses will be inserted, via a tiny incision behind the knee, into a convenient ‘Medial Compartment’, located directly above the appropriate muscle in the calf. The stitches employed in this procedure will be fully absorbable.
You will be discharged from hospital the following morning from where you will be assisted in travelling back to your lodgings for recuperation purposes. Due to the insertion of the prosthesis your calves will feel very tight initially and generally speaking a certain amount of discomfort and difficulty can be experienced while walking during the first week following surgery. If you feel the need to wear shoes during the recuperative period it is suggested that shoes with only slight heels be worn in order to ease the discomfort.
A full recovery can usually be expected between 10 - 14 days following surgery.
